Roland Gohler was among the elite West German rowers and represented West Germany in international competitions in this demanding water discipline. Rowing was traditionally a strong sport in Germany and West German rowers achieved excellent results at Olympic Games and World Championships. His BRD representation ranks him among significant athletes from the period of divided Germany.
