Ladislav Beneš was a prominent Czechoslovak handball player of the sixties when Czechoslovak handball achieved international success. The year 1965 falls into the period of flourishing Czechoslovak handball when our national team was among the European elite. Lidová demokracie was a Czechoslovak daily newspaper associated with the Czechoslovak People's Party and had its own sports editorial office. Mr. Martinovský was a photographer working for Lidová demokracie and documenting sporting events. The stamp and date December 10, 1965, prove professional origin and time placement of the photograph.
