Historic postcard featuring Olympisch stadion - Marathonpoort in Amsterdam from 1928, marked with number 10. This collector's item is in perfect condition - unaddressed, unused, and without a stamp. The Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam was built for the IX Summer Olympic Games in 1928, which were the first Olympic Games held in the Netherlands. Marathonpoort (Marathon Gate) was the iconic entrance gate to the stadium with a characteristic tower. The stadium was designed by architect Jan Wijs and has a capacity of around 22,000 spectators. Amsterdam 1928 was a historic Olympics - for the first time the Olympic torch was lit and Czechoslovakia won two gold medals (gymnastics). The stadium is still used today by football club AFC Ajax for reserve team matches. Postcard number 10 was probably part of a larger Olympic series. Rare memorabilia for collectors of stadium postcards, Olympic history fans, or enthusiasts of historic Olympics and Dutch architecture.
