Expert note – FAQ

What is San Siro's official name?
San Siro is a football stadium in Milan, opened in 1926, where both AC Milan and Inter play their home matches. Since 1980 it has officially been named Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after the famous striker who played for both clubs, yet fans still call it San Siro to this day.

How can I tell a San Siro postcard is from before 1990?
A pre-1990 postcard of San Siro can be identified because the stadium has only two tiers with spiral ramps and lacks the roof, the third tier and the eleven cylindrical towers. These were added during the rebuild for the 1990 World Cup. Cars in the car park and publisher details offer further clues.

Why collect postcards of stadiums before rebuilds?
Postcards showing stadiums before major rebuilds document their original architecture, which can no longer be seen today. Collectors also value them for their link to club history and famous matches. Unused cards in good condition with vivid colours are especially sought after.
