Expert note – FAQ

When did AC Milan win the 1969 European Cup?
AC Milan won the European Cup in the 1968/69 season, beating Ajax Amsterdam 4–1 in the final in Madrid on 28 May 1969. It was the club’s second triumph in the competition after 1963. Items linked to San Siro from this season are therefore especially appealing to Rossoneri collectors.

Are postally used postcards worth more than unused ones?
A postally used postcard carries an exact date and place of posting thanks to its postmark, making it a documented period item. Collectors of sports subjects therefore often value used cards more highly than unused ones. The legibility of the postmark, the stamp and overall condition also matter.

What is the Italian Siracusana stamp series?
Siracusana is a long-running Italian definitive stamp series issued from 1953. It shows the head of Italia wearing a turreted crown, based on an ancient coin from Syracuse, and was used for decades in many face values. It is very common on postcards from the 1960s.
