Expert note – FAQ

What is Farsley Celtic A.F.C.?
Farsley Celtic A.F.C. is an English football club from Farsley near Leeds, West Yorkshire, founded in 1908. It has played at Throstle Nest since 1948. The club went through financial difficulties, was dissolved in 2010 and was reformed as Farsley A.F.C.

What is groundhopping?
Groundhopping is a hobby of fans who collect visits to as many football grounds as possible, and it has an especially strong tradition in England. Postcards of small non-league grounds are sought-after mementos, as they are issued in small runs and document how grounds looked over time.

Why are postcards of English grounds from the 1990s interesting?
Postcards of small English grounds from the late 1980s and early 1990s capture stands before the extensive modernisation that followed safety reforms. Old terracing, wooden or metal seats and simple roofs can no longer be seen at many grounds today.
