Original club pennant of BSG Defa - Babelsberg, made of textile with single-sided printing. BSG (Betriebssportgemeinschaft - company sports club) Defa Babelsberg was a physical education unit associated with DEFA film studio in Babelsberg near Potsdam in the GDR. Babelsberg is a historic district known for its film studios, which were the largest in the GDR and are the oldest major film studio still in operation in the world. DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft) was the state film company of East Germany. BSGs in the GDR were company sports clubs where employees of large enterprises practiced organized sports. After German reunification in 1990, the club was transformed and today exists as SV Babelsberg 03, playing in higher German football competitions. Single-sided printing of the pennant ensured practical use at sporting events. Rare memorabilia for collectors of East German sports souvenirs, Babelsberg fans, or enthusiasts of GDR history and film industry.
