Rare large color collectible card of Oberleutnant Gotthard Handrick from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Bild I. Nr: 14, Gruppe 60. Gotthard Handrick was a German Olympic champion in modern pentathlon at the 1936 Berlin Games. As an oberleutnant (first lieutenant) in the German army, he represented the military tradition in Olympic sports. Modern pentathlon combined swimming, fencing, shooting, equestrian, and running, which was considered the ideal all-around discipline for soldiers. His gold medal in front of the home crowd was one of many German successes at these controversial Olympic Games. A rare collector's item for lovers of Olympic history, modern pentathlon, or significant historical moments from the pre-World War II period.
