Original club pennant of DTSB - Karl Marx Stadt - Sportkommision, made of textile with double-sided printing. DTSB (Deutscher Turn- und Sportbund - German Gymnastics and Sports Federation) was the umbrella sports organization of the German Democratic Republic. Karl Marx Stadt was the name of the city Chemnitz in the GDR from 1953-1990, named after Karl Marx. After German reunification in 1990, the city returned to its original name Chemnitz. Sportkommision was the sports commission managing local sporting activities within DTSB. Karl Marx Stadt was a significant industrial city with strong sports tradition. DTSB organized all organized sport in the GDR and was closely linked with the socialist regime. Double-sided printing of the pennant ensured quality presentation at sporting events.
