Collectible card from the Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956 Olympic series, number 63 from series of 100 images, featuring Sissy Schwarz and Kurt Oppelt. The VII Winter Olympic Games were held in the Italian Cortina d'Ampezzo in January and February 1956. Sissy Schwarz and Kurt Oppelt were an Austrian figure skating pair who won the gold medal in pairs competition at these games. Their triumph was Austria's first Olympic gold in figure skating. The series of 100 images was a complete collector's edition dedicated to the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina. These cards were popular collectibles in the fifties, often distributed in chocolates or as separate series. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the first Italian Winter Olympics and was a significant event in postwar Europe.
