An original promissory note issued by the Citizens’ Credit Union in Brno-Husovice, drawn by the Sokol Maloměřice Athletic Association in 1928, bearing an official stamp and a printed revenue stamp in the amount of 4 Kčs. Citizens’ credit unions were a backbone of economic life in Czech cities and towns during the First Republic, and Sokol represented the strongest pillar of Czech civil society. This promissory note is an exceptionally interesting document illustrating the financial cooperation between the two most significant institutions of Czech public life at the time—the credit union system and the Sokol movement—during the golden years of the interwar republic.
