OLYMPIC
The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the I Olympiad Games (Greek: Αγῶνες τῆς Ι Ολυμπιάδος), was a sporting competition held in Athens, Greece from 6 to 15 April 1896. It was the first international Olympic Games held in the modern era. Since Ancient Greece was the cradle of the Ancient Greek Olympic Games, it was considered the best choice for the first edition to hold this competition in Athens. Therefore, Athens was unanimously chosen as the host city during a congress organised by Pierre de Coubertin, a French educator and historian.
